Twenty three carats of Mozambique ruby, hung from a line of diamonds so that the colour gathers weight as it falls.
The necklace is a fringe. Nine pear cut rubies hang from a line of diamond links, the largest at the centre, so the colour gathers weight as it falls. The links between them are built from baguettes and rounds set in small geometric clusters, which keep the gold quiet and let the rubies do the talking.
The earrings were made separately and are the more ornate of the two. Marquise and pear rubies sit inside scrolls of pavé, with ruby set lines curling through the diamonds and rosecut pear drops at the edges. They are heavier in spirit than the necklace, and that is the point of wearing them together: the necklace calms the earrings, and the earrings give the necklace somewhere to look.
