The rainbow set, in sapphires of every colour.
Nearly ninety seven carats of sapphire, cut into shards and fitted together like glass in a window.
The sapphires are cut as kites, hexagons and long-sided trapezoids, in pink, peach, yellow, lavender and the paler blues. They are fitted together edge to edge, the way glass is fitted in a window, each one held in its own fine claws of gold.
Between them run small triangles and bars of round brilliant diamonds. They do the work that lead does in stained glass: they separate the colours so that each stone reads on its own, and they catch the light where the sapphires let it through.
The bracelet is the widest expression of the idea, broad enough to cover the wrist. The necklace and earrings carry the same pattern at a smaller scale. All three can be had together or on their own, and the bracelet can be made into a choker on request.
The sapphires are heated, as is usual for coloured sapphire. They are set in 14K yellow gold, which is harder than 18K and holds stones of such irregular shape more securely in their claws.
