Inherited Gold Jewellery Transformation for NRI Clients — Amarkosh Reincarnation Protocol

You Live Abroad. Your Gold Lives in India. Here is How to Resolve It Without Coming Back.

I want to describe a situation that I hear versions of constantly from NRI clients.

You left India ten, fifteen, twenty years ago. You built a life in Dubai, London, Singapore, or New York. That life is full, productive, and genuinely your own.

But every time you visit India, usually once a year if that, there is a list. Family obligations, old friendships to maintain, bureaucratic errands that only you can resolve in person. And somewhere on that list, usually near the bottom because it feels too complicated to address in the time available, is the locker.

Your mother's jewellery. Your grandmother's sets. Pieces that were given to you at your wedding or inherited after someone passed. Sitting in a bank locker in Mumbai or Delhi or a smaller city, generating locker rent, accumulating the particular guilt that comes from owning something valuable that you are doing nothing with.

You keep meaning to deal with it. The visit comes and goes. The locker stays closed. You return abroad with the vague intention of addressing it next time.

This post is for you. And specifically, it is about how the Reincarnation Protocol works for clients who live outside India and cannot be present in Mumbai for the process.

The Assumption Most NRI Clients Make

The most common assumption I encounter from NRI clients is that transforming inherited gold in India requires multiple visits. That the process involves bringing the jewellery to a studio, attending fittings, returning for approvals, and generally being physically present in a way that is incompatible with a life built abroad.

This assumption is understandable. It reflects how traditional jewellery services work in India. The family jeweller expects you to come to the shop. Fittings happen in person. Approvals happen in person. The entire process assumes you are local.

The Reincarnation Protocol was built differently. It was built with the specific reality of NRI clients in mind from the beginning, because the NRI client is in many ways the client with the most acute version of the dead capital problem. She has the gold. She has the financial understanding to know it should be doing something. And she has the logistical barrier of distance preventing her from acting. The Protocol removes that barrier systematically.

How the Logistics Work

The first question every NRI client asks is about the gold. How does it get from the locker to you, and how does it get back to me?

We partner exclusively with Sequel Logistics and BVC Logistics for all gold transit. These are the armoured carriers that banks and financial institutions use for gold movement in India. They are not courier companies. They are specialist secure logistics providers with specific expertise in high-value asset transit.

Here is the process for an NRI client. If you have family in India who can access the locker on your behalf, they arrange the collection with Sequel. If you prefer to handle this during a visit, the collection can be scheduled around your arrival. Either way, the pieces are collected in a tamper-proof sealed bag, the sealing is recorded on video, and the consignment is insured for 110 percent of the declared value from the moment it leaves the locker.

When the pieces arrive at our Mumbai studio, the unboxing happens under a dedicated camera. Every item is weighed, photographed, and documented on video. You receive this video before we begin any work. This is your confirmation that what arrived is what was sent.

For the finished piece, the same logistics chain works in reverse. The completed jewellery is shipped to you internationally with full insurance coverage and the appropriate customs documentation.

How the Vision Call Works

The Vision Call, the one-on-one strategy session with me where we review your inventory and discuss the design direction, happens on Zoom.

This is not a compromise on the in-person experience. It is, in many ways, a more efficient version of it. You can join from your home in Dubai or your office in London. You can have family members on the call from different locations. You can see the forensic audit results in real time on screen.

The call covers what you own, what its current condition and purity are, what design directions make sense for your material and your aesthetic, and what the financial reality of the transformation looks like. It takes fifteen minutes for a clear brief and thirty minutes for a more complex inventory.

After the call you receive a written proposal summarising everything discussed.

The Prototype and the Approval

This is the part of the Protocol that matters most for NRI clients specifically.

Before a single gram of gold is cast, we produce a 3D resin prototype of your new design. This is a physical object, the exact dimensions and form of the finished piece, printed in grey resin. We ship this prototype to you internationally.

You wear it. In Dubai, in London, in New York. You check the length of a necklace against your neckline. You assess the weight of an earring against your ear. You confirm that the proportions feel right on your body before anything irreversible happens.

Your approval comes in writing. Only after that written sign-off do we cast the gold in our Mumbai studio.

This step was designed specifically because design regret is significantly more difficult to manage across a distance. The prototype eliminates this risk entirely.

The Customs and Documentation Question

NRI clients frequently ask about the customs implications of shipping gold jewellery internationally.

The finished piece is accompanied by the Amarkosh hallmark certificate confirming the gold purity, the Amarkosh authenticity letter documenting the piece, and IGI certification for the principal diamonds on request. These documents provide the material basis for accurate customs declaration on arrival in your country of residence.

Customs duties on jewellery vary by country and by the declared value of the piece. The UAE, the UK, and the US all have different thresholds and duty rates. We recommend checking the specific rules for your country of residence before the piece is shipped and declaring accurately on arrival. We provide all documentation required for this process.

For clients who prefer to collect the piece in person on a visit to India, we can hold completed pieces in secure storage at our studio until you are next in Mumbai.

Why This Moment is Particularly Well Timed

Gold prices in India are at or near historical highs. The appreciation of gold bought ten or twenty years ago represents a significant surplus equity position for most NRI clients with inherited gold.

The Reincarnation Protocol uses a portion of that surplus equity to fund the transformation. In most cases the cost of the new design is entirely covered by the appreciation in the gold itself. You do not spend additional money. You redirect equity that has already been created.

For NRI clients who are watching gold prices from abroad and wondering whether now is the right time to act, the answer is that the financial conditions for zero-cost transformation are better today than they have been at any point in the last decade.

What to Do if You Are Ready to Begin

The Protocol begins with an initiation that gives you access to a private briefing where I walk through the full process, the logistics, the math, and the documentation. The briefing happens online and takes approximately forty-five minutes.

After the briefing, if you choose to proceed, we schedule the Vision Call and begin the intake process. The gold does not move until you have had the Vision Call and explicitly authorised the next step.

If you have inherited gold in India and have been waiting for a visit that keeps getting delayed, you do not need to wait.
